Assume Your product has 200 components. Each components must be on hand to start production.  If each of the 200 components has an on-time delivery performance of 99%, the overall product delivery performance would only be 13.4%.  To get to a on-time delivery of let’s say 98% the delivery performance at the component level must be 99.99%.
